SUMMER 2016TBAFrequently Asked QuestionsWhy should I sell back my textbooks?
You are the best source of used books on UCI’s campus! Having more used textbooks in stock is the single most significant way The Hill can reduce your textbook costs. Our preference is to purchase them from you rather than purchase them from a used book company. What is the textbook buyback value of my books?
You can check the buyback value of your books here before you visit the store. When can I sell back my books?
Textbook buyback is available through The Hill year-round Monday through Friday. The best times, however, are during Finals Week and at the very beginning of each quarter. How is a book buyback value determined?
At Buyback, books fall into 3 categories:Top Value:
Your textbook must meet all of the following requirements:The textbook has been ordered by faculty for the next quarterIt is in good condition and is the current editionIt is needed for stock by the The Hill
We will pay up to 50% of the current in-store retail value of the book, regardless of whether you bought the book new or used. These books stay on campus and enable other students to save money. If you bought any coursebook packages that contained CDs or Solutions Manuals, please remember to bring them along with the coursebook.Market Value:
Books of current edition not requested by the faculty for the upcoming quarter or needed for stock by the bookstore can be sold at national market price, which will vary, usually from 10 – 30% of the list price. The agent buying these books will ship them to warehouses and take a chance that they can be sold to other schools. The Hill has this agent here as a service to buy those books that we are unable to purchase for course use.Personal Value:
Only some books have little or no value on the resale market, and are better kept in your library. Some examples are “mass-market” paperbacks, books which have changed edition, gone out-of-print, or are damaged.
